MicroServices started in 1986 with the "freezer program" containing only restriction enzymes. We had asked several companies for a freezer program. Only BRL would go along with what the University lawyers required in such a program at that time. The primary purpose was to provide immediate access to high-usage molecular biological reagents. As more people used the service, we became able to negotiate discounted prices and financial savings has become an additional goal of the program.

We also interact with the Biochemistry/Biotechnology Facility, operated by Dr. Robert A. Harris. For example we carry specific plasmid purification columns that work well for DNA sequencing.

You can special order many products from most of the companies listed on this site through Steve Larsen (274-7997 or Fax 274-4090) and receive various discounts. We usually obtain free shipping and no hazardous fees because of our contract or because we include multiple items to make a large order. Larger orders are more apt to result in greater discounts. However, product prices are subject to change without notice.
